Zoo University

Here's the video of Zoo University that I worked on as a Character Animator while interning at DoubleTake Media Solutions (DTMS). I animated a bunch of the walk cycles in the background, which I may post as individual videos later.

This video is a little dirty though, it's for a specific audience, just a pre-warning :)

Enjoy!

Lip Sync Bank Robber

Here's my final lip sync for my Facial Animation focus. I think it still needs some work as far as some of the silhouettes go, so I'll have to fix that, but otherwise I'm pretty content with it.

4 days.

Magic Swirls

Here is some sparkle and shine I did using particles and lights in Maya. I had a lot of fun with this! I call it Magic.

Worst Day Ever - CG Animated Short

Here is the final version of our class project. 10 weeks. 14 people. Pre-modeled and rigged characters.

I was the Lead Animator and the Lead in Visual Effects (cloth and liquid simulation). I also wrote the script for the short and helped on the Storyboard Team.

In scene 1, at the bar, I did the fluid effects for the "rum" that splashes over the counter.

In scene 6, the crazy taxi driver, I animated both characters and the taxi.

In scene 10, the final bar scene, I animated both characters and any IK/FK animation on the bottle.

So, Better Off Dead Productions brings you a low-res version of our short - "Worst Day Ever".

FanimeCon 2010 Animated CG Bumpers

This is a set of five animations that I did for FanimeCon 2010 that I volunteered for. These took me about a week and a half to produce (outside of school and work). I was asked to create shorts that would lead as bumpers to introduce categories of FMV submissions from fans. They were premiered on two big screens in the San Jose Civic Auditorium.

I wrote the scripts (available upon request) and animated the two characters and remote.

The video has much better Title Screens that look like popular television shows that come on with static effects and everything which were created by Jose Marin, but they're left out on this blog - available upon request though!

Lip Sync Gangster

I did this piece to continue my focus and practice on Facial Animation and Lip Sync. This is a three (3) hour piece.

Eating and Drinking

Here's a video of a character munching down on a feast. I wanted a focus on eating and drinking. This piece is actually unfinished, I'd like to add some Visual Effects on the torches (fire) and some liquid wine in the glass. I'd also like to extend the animation so he gets up and runs at the end and the Ogre that he's stealing the food from walks in Goldilocks style, angry and curious as to why his food's half eaten.

Oh, and if you're wondering, I did indeed model and texture the environment. I added some basic candle flicker and lighting too, but nothing fancy; in fact the scene still needs shadows. I had subsurface shading on the candlesticks too, but that's a mentalray thing and since his eyeballs were nurbs they would disappear in the render. So I cut my losses. I figured it was probably more important to have eyeballs than realistic looking candles...

Emotions

This is a video showing the transition between three emotions. He stars out sort of coy and shy, then does a take and is shocked by something he sees, only to get angry at whatever it was.

Eye Focus

This animation is a focus on the emotion eyes can portray. This character is supposed to be a young girl being yelled at by her Angry Aunt. The audio was taken from the 11 Second Club, although this piece was never entered.

Headturn 180 degrees

Here's an animation - focusing on facial animation - of a girl getting interrupted from a book by a noise she's hearing and can't figure out where it's coming from.

Volcano

Here's my volcano! I did the lava in RealFlow and everything else in Maya, including 2d to 3d texturing on the lava so that it would move with the flow. The 3d smoke is also done in Maya, along with all other texturing, glows, and lighting.

Fur

I was very interested in seeing if I could recreate an real animal's fur, rather than just making it up. So I chose a deer, here are my normal, wet, and dry versions of deer fur. I used Maya for all the fur effects.

Explosion

Here are some videos of my very first explosion. The first one here is the final shot for our production (which will be posted, in full, very soon).

This second one is a shot of the entire explosion, it's own asset that can be used wherever else I will ever need it.

I have one more shot of it in stereoscopic 3D (the red-and-blue-glasses kind) but I have to re-compress that.

Cloth Deformer on Wacky Wailing Flailing Inflatable Tube Man!

This is my wacky wailing flailing inflatable tube man. He's mainly just cloth with a couple air-fans inside and outside of him to keep him filled up and standing.

Fur

My furry balls :) It's my first attempt with fur - the normal, dry, and wet fur differentiations.

Visual Effects Campfire

This is my first attempt at fire, a simple campfire.

Visual Effects Water

Here's my first attempt at Maya water. It's pouring from the cup to the bowl and I'm pretty sure whomever is pouring is probably inebriated...

Visual Effects Smoke

This is my first attempt at visual effects. It's a basic 2D smoke effect. I had it in mind that an evil genie could pop out.
